Indian president returns home after Africa tour

NEW DELHI, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Indian President Ram Nath Kovind returned home late Thursday night after wrapping up a five-day tour of Mauritus and Madagascar.

His first stop was Port Louis, where he met Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib and Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, and attended the 50th year celebrations of Mauritian Independence Day as chief guest.

Both India and Mauritus exchanged pacts in fields of health, education and culture. President Kovind also announced a Line of Credit of 100 million U.S. dollars for Mauritus to boost the island nation's security capacity.

In the last leg of his tour, President Kovind visited Madagascar, the first ever by an Indian head of state.

He witnessed the exchange of bilateral agreements between India and the island nation in the fields of defense and air services, and also co-chaired a business forum with with his Madagascar counterpart Hery Rajaonarimampianina.

The Indian president was accompanied by his wife Savita, Indian Minister Ashwini Kumar Choube and head of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's Delhi unit Manoj Tiwari.
