Chinese performance group entertains Namibian audience with traditional healthcare practice

WINDHOEK, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese martial arts performance group from a Chinese university stunned local audience with healthcare exercises presented through dancing in Namibia's capital Windhoek Saturday evening.

According to Long Zhuan, who works for Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, the programs focused on traditional Chinese physical exercises and healthcare practice.

"Undergraduate students are taught and exposed to Chinese traditional and healthcare exercises that look at healing discomforts and other symptoms caused by long-time sitting, and help relieve stress," he said.

The show was hosted in celebration of the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Namibia.

Other performance programs included Tai Chi, folk dances, folk songs and folk music.

Zhang Fan, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Namibia, said that the celebration was also aimed at immersing people in Namibia into the Chinese culture.

According to Zhang, the Confucius Institute at the University of Namibia, is a successful example of the exchange between Namibia and China.

The Institute, jointly built by the China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and University of Namibia, was inaugurated in August 2013.

The institute served more than 3,400 students in the last five years.
