PRAGUE, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of revelers in the Czech capital and two other cities have been fascinated by Chinese New Year celebration featuring art performance and traditional culture presentations.

This year, China Zhejiang Wu Opera Troupe brought classic Chinese music genres, dances, acrobatics and performances with traditional musical instruments to the audiences from city of Prague, Ostrava and Olomouc.

Czech artists were also invited to the stage, singing with them Czech songs including "Promeny".

The four-day event also offers calligraphy and martial arts presentations, tea ceremony and food stands with traditional Chinese snacks such as dumplings, boiled or fried.

The fifth Chinese New Year celebration, which started last Friday and ended on Monday, is sponsored by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Czech Cultural Ministry, the Embassy of China in the Czech Republic, and local governments of Moravian-Silesian region and Olomouc.

The celebration has been launched in the Czech Republic to share the joy and culture of the Chinese lunar New Year with the Czech people.

Zhang Jianmin, Chinese ambassador to the Czech Republic, said the celebration was kicked off as the first of a series of events to mark the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Czech Republic.

"It is the best way to help build a bridge to connect the people of the two countries," said the ambassador.

The celebration has been held ahead of the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, which starts on Feb. 5. The year 2019 will be the "Year of the Pig" in the Chinese lunar calendar.
