COLOMBO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The National Transport Commission (NTC) of Sri Lanka is drafting a list of passenger rights aimed at ensuring the safety of bus passengers, NTC Chairman Bandura Dileepa Witharana announced Monday during an interview on local television.
Witharana stated that the proposed passenger rights would include conditions that bus operators agree to adhere to when they obtain licenses for passenger transport services. These licenses are issued by both the NTC and provincial councils.
The NTC plans to consult with bus associations and passenger organizations to finalize the list, he added.
Additionally, the commission is working to secure job stability for private bus drivers and conductors as part of the broader initiative.
The Sri Lankan government has introduced several measures to enhance public transportation and improve road safety under its "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative. ■
