DOHA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Qatar and the United States held a joint meeting to discuss ways to boost trade ties between the two countries, state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Qatar's Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed and the visiting chairman of the U.S.-Qatar Business Council Anne Patterson, and the delegation accompanying him in Doha on Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the measures taken by Qatar to attract U.S. investments, particularly the draft law which has recently been approved by Qatar to allow foreign investors to own 100 percent in all sectors.

According to the report, the two sides highlighted the outcomes of the first stage of Qatar's economic roadshow of the U.S., which is Qatar's sixth-largest trading partner and first destination for imports.

The first tour included four U.S. cities and witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding between Qatari and U.S. companies.

The meeting, which was held in the Qatari capital Doha, is a result of the U.S.-Qatar Strategic Dialogue, which concluded in Washington in January.

The two nations enjoy sound military and economic relations. as Qatar currently hosts the Al-Udeid air base, the largest U.S. military facility in the Middle East.

The tiny Gulf country also accommodates more than 658 U.S. companies, of which 117 are fully owned U.S. companies. The volume of U.S. investments in Qatar has amounted to 26.3 billion Qatari riyals (7.22 billion U.S. dollars).
